Electric Dreams (1984)

In this "fairytale for computers," Miles Hardings's new home computer develops a personality, takes over Miles's apartment and begins flirting with Miles's girlfriend. The film is shot in a music video style, with lots of canted angles, quick editing, and striking closed-form framing.

Miles teaches Edgar (the computer) about love so Edgar can write love songs for Madeline, the beautiful, cello-playing upstairs neighbor, who caresses Edgar's circuits in a brief "love" scene.

Edgar likes to watch TV while Miles is a work. Here, in a brief inter-textual reference, he watches a scene from Forbidden Planet, starring Robby the Robot.
