Colossus: The Forbin Project (1969)

Above right is the interior of Colossus' "brain," located in an enormous complex built into the side of a mountain. The immense scope of Colossus, suggested by the long shot of one of it's hallways extending apparently to infinity, evokes the images of the planet-sized Krell supercomputer from Forbidden Planet.

These are the terminals of Colossus and Guardian, communicating over telephone lines. If you look closely, you'll notice that they are discussing math, a sure sign that they are up to no good. You'll also notice that the equations displayed on the terminals are large enough to be legible from several feet away. This is the case with most computers in films. They must display text on their monitors so that it can be easily read from the distance of a typical medium, over-the-shoulder shot. This means, of course, that computers in films are rarely able to display more than two or three lines of text at any one time.
