    all material put before the camera to be filmed, and its placement within the
    frame

     –French theater term for “what is put into the scene”:  what is staged within the
     camera frame

     –not static: includes everything seen, still or moving 

     –illusionistic: arranged to give 3-D effect in a 2-D “picture”

     –complex term: analyses all visual elements, excepting cinematography

    composition– arrangement of material for each shot:

positions, movements, groupings of subjects

placement of subjects against settings

relation of subjects to the frame
